Pep Talk!

MasterLee gave me a GREAT pep talk last night about persistency and perseverance to go after what and who I wanted in life. The pep talk came at a great time just when I started to have a second thoughts and self doubts and question whether it is worth it because of the potential challenges and obstacles. But the great Master really puts thing in perspective:

“The outcome Sonic, is all in your head. The only thing and the great thing you can control are your actions. Put some heart into it! Have confidence, have faith, don’t give up and just believe… You have the tools to win and you will win!”

Thanks MasterLee! I will follow through this time. Like studying for GMAT and training for Triathlon, have not fear, look forward and enjoy the ride :P

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ETHAN!

Happy Birthday Ethan!

I got a late night email last night from your dad about your birth. Your official time of birth is 3/20/2006 at 11:02PM. Welcome to this world!

I've known your dad for over 14 years now. He is one of the funniest, driven and wise friend I have, even with all his quirky habits! So I can tell you for sure that he is, and will always be a great dad to you, and you will have lots of fun with him that is for sure. I in time, he’ll even give you some tips on getting to know girls, even though they may seem boring now, but take his advise with a grain of salt, because it may not always work :P

And here is a promise to you too. In 12 years time, when you are ready to play sports, I will teach you some tricks in basketball and tennis so you can beat you dad. But be sure to let him win sometimes yeah? He is quite competitive you know.

As for your mom. She is a wonderful woman too. A perfect compliment to your dad. She is likely to spoil you, but just remember whenever you feel like acting like a brat, remember that she went through a lot to give birth to you.

You also have a dog call Audi. He is just a little bit older than you. He is very hyper, but nonetheless a smart dog. Your dad has taught him some neat tricks that will make you smile. So when you are a little older, be sure to play with him lots. It'll be some of the most wonderful memory you’ll have about your childhood when you get older.

Let see, what else is there to tell you on this day of your birth: Nothing much else really! Our world is changing, and as you get older, you'll find out that your dad and mine generation is probably not the best generation in taking care of this blue thing we live on called Earth. But we are counting on you to make it better, and I am sure you and your fellow brothers and sisters will make it better too. Again, congratulations Ethan. I'll be seeing you soon and drop off your basketball jerseys and other little presents.

Your uncle Eddie

Traffic...

I am commuting from San Gabriel this week since there is no one in the SG home to look after my sister's precious dogs. The commute is 44 miles from SG to where I work in Irvine and I have to say that it is a nightmare. This morning, it took me 2 hours to get to work. 2 hours! I even woke up at 5:30 to leave before 6. Seriously, Los Angelinos should really start using the public transit system, and our government shoud build a better system too.

Good for the envirnment too!

Male Bonding

I had dinner with two of the more eccentric (yet super intelligent) friends who I haven’t seen for the longest time:

Eddie, who banished himself to Japan 4 years ago is back for 4 days before heading back to Japan to accept a position as a creative manger at one of the top Advertising Agency (Denso) there.

Simon, who with his VC business is constantly traveling between the States and Shanghai, and of course balancing his duty as a husband and venture capitalists.

It was nice to see these two again. Funny how though all of us are taking slightly different route in our career approach, we are all, and we feel all, older and wiser. I totally enjoy those unabashful, cynical, brutally honest, unapologetic, fatalistically optimistic conversation we had about our career, our life, our love, our mental progression, our faith and our shortfalls. I think in mists of our banter exchanges over Scotch, we all learned something from each other (for the better or worse). But we do progress.

Well, see you two next time. In a year or two.

Keep those sails full.
